Doug Foresta is a playwright who writes primarily about Jewish themes and characters. He grew up in Lakewood, NJ, home of the largest Yeshiva in the United States, and often draws on inspiration from his experiences in the Orthodox community in his work. Doug has studied playwriting with J. Dakota Powell, Lee Gundersheimer and Lucy Wang. He completed graduate work in theatre and communications at Hunter College. Doug's play "Tall Tales" was a finalist for the 2009 Massachusetts Cultural Council Award, and his play "Present Company Excluded", based on the real-life story of Herbert Roth, was produced at the National Yiddish Book Center and is part of a permanent display at The Institute for Holocaust, Genocide, and Memory Studies at Umass Amherst. From 2002-2017, Doug was a playwright-in-residence at the Drama Studio in Springfield, MA. He is currently working on two full-length plays: Children of Moses, about a young Jewish man who is trying to escape from the clutches of a charismatic but dangerous leader, and Hate Crimes, about a Yeshiva student who fights to protect his brother during a summer of particularly vicious anti-semitic hate crimes in Borough Park, New York.
