Tyler Herman

Tyler Herman grew up in and around Washington, DC where he developed a taste for pineapple juice, board games, and putting on plays. After studying Theatre, Dance, and Music at Cornell University, he returned to DC where he delved into the diverse, vibrant theatre scene.

Specializing in highly physical and comedic work, Tyler helped to found Faction of Fools Theatre Company, a group devoted to the practice and celebration of Commedia dell'Arte. Faction of Fools won the prestigious Helen Hayes award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre in 2012. He served as the Fools' Director of Development and Director of Audience Services, and acted in and directed over twenty foolish plays and productions.

In addition to his work as an actor and director around town, Tyler developed curriculum and taught for many theatrical organizations. He is a freelance acting coach, and has worked with numerous high schools and home school organizations. Tyler developed the theatre program at DC's School Without Walls, and helped to build curriculum for Faction of Fools and Adventure Theatre-MTC.

Tyler served on the Board of Directors for DC's Actor Center, and acted as Treasurer and chairs of the Auditions and Workshops committees. During his time with the Actors' Center, Tyler established city-wide musical theatre auditions, and brought many other workshops and opportunities to DC actors, teachers, and theatre companies.

From 2015-2018, Tyler pursued his MFA at Brown University/Trinity Rep's MFA Programs in Acting and Directing, where he studied acting, directing, playwriting, and producing. In addition to his academic pursuits, Tyler also served as Artistic Director of Romp Of Otters, Brown/Trinity's Graduate Theater Community.

Tyler currently lives and works in the Washington, DC area with his wife and artistic partner-in-crime, Sarah, their adorable papichon Covi, five and a half stuffed animal friends, and, yes, a bookshelf full of board games.
