Sara Nesson-1

Sara Nesson.

I am driven by a lifelong passion for all things creative. To get lost in ink or clay, words or music—this is sacred to me, and I rely on this force in my life.

As a dramatist, I have been creating, producing, and performing in original shows for twenty-five years, appearing with companies such as A Traveling Jewish Theatre and The Marsh in San Francisco. After a successful national tour of my first solo work, The Broken Mishkan, I am offering a new solo work, Body of Water, a tale about wrestling with life’s limitations.

I am a 2023 recipient of the Janavi Held Endowed Poetry & Art Grant and my creative projects have received funding from Interfaith America, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and Alliance for Jewish Theatre.

I have led Taizé candlelight services in churches, taught storytelling workshops at seminaries and hospitals, mentored Jewish teenagers, and traversed the United States as a travel writer. I currently facilitate a group for artists living with chronic illness. I am a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Harvard College, and the Graduate Theological Union.

These days I live on a peaceful hillside in northern California with my husband and two high-personality cats. I listen for owls and coyotes at night, and I try to stay open.
