performers invited. english or hebrew. no pay and no participation fees. for pros and beginners. free training for talented beginners. merkavah jewish theater has just moved from israel to the united states. we are now an experimental, avant garde musical theater company in the new york city area. we are continuing our 40 year tradition of exploring jewish topics using contemporary performing arts techniques, especially the work of michael chekhov, bertold brecht and mabou mines, together with the gestalt therapy process of work on awareness, dreams and personal relationships. we work slowly and in depth in order to obtain quality artistic results, in contrast to the usual compromises required by commercial production deadlines. our work process and our artistic results come out of the reality, dreams and life experiences of each performer. we do not just hand you a script, wind you up, and set you in motion as a golem showing off the clever ideas of some playwright or director. music is much a part of our work, therefore actors, dancers, singers and musicians are invited. klezmer music is part of what we do, in english, hebrew or yiddish. our center is the new york city area, but since we do much of our work using skype video phone calls you can participate without needing to live nearby. when necessary we will arrange special workshops in your area. we are interested in the jewish tradition in all its forms, sacred and secular. both breslav kabbalah and off broadway musical comedy are relevant to us. we belong to the new york avant garde while we participate in the zionist dream of israel.
