Eileen Bluestone Sherman is playwright, lyricist, young adult novelist, television writer and theater/music producer who continues to wear many hats. When writing musical theater, she collaborates with her sister Gail C. Bluestone. From the stages of LINCOLN CENTER, , FEINSTEIN’S/54 BELOW, SYMPHONY SPACE, HALLMARK CARDS’ CROWN CENTER, THE BITTER END, and CARNEGIE HALL, the Bluestone Sisters’ award winning songs continue to delight audiences of all ages. The score from their Emmy Award winning musical The Odd Potato fills the radio airwaves around the world every holiday season as does their song (from the musical web series, Charmers ) “I Keep Christmas in My Pocket,” a 2017 Hollywood Music in Media Award Nominee and a 2017 Clouzine International Music Award Winner.
Eileen Bluestone Sherman (book and lyrics) and Gail C. Bluestone (music) began their musical theater collaboration at Hallmark’s Coterie Theatre in Kansas City, which soon led to the sisters contributing scripts to Chicago’s popular musical children’s television series, The Magic Door. This ultimately brought the sisters’ music to the New York stage and Broadway recording studios with a host of Tony Award Winners, including such Broadway super stars as Elaine Stritch, Sutton Foster, Hal Linden, Andrea McArdle, Donna McKechnie, Beth Leavel, Lillias White, and Judd Hirsch.
Eileen’s award winning novels for young adults include Monday in Odessa, Independence Avenue, and The Violin Players. Perhaps her most popular story is The Odd Potato, originally a picture book, adapted for stage, television, and a CD, starring 20 Tony Award Winners.
Through the years, Eileen’s work received numerous honors, including two Emmy Awards, The National Jewish Book Award and The International Reading Association’s Teacher’s Choice Award.
The Bluestone Sisters’ 2018 single, “Stand Up Proud! An Anthem 4 Freedom,” recorded by Tony and Emmy Award Winner, Lillias White, serves as the official anthem of Southern Vermont’s 4 Freedoms Festival℠. Last summer, the sisters’ musical about the legendary artist Norman Rockwell (starring an all Broadway cast and directed by 4 time Tony Award Nominee, Randy Skinner) was the featured event at the Festival.
Eileen Sherman and award winning Americana roots singer-songwriter, Grant Smith, are the co-founders of the international music organization, The Indie Collaborative, whose mission is to foster new and unique collaborations among music professionals worldwide. Eileen is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild, the Authors Guild, and the Recording Academy, where she serves as a Grammy Voter.
