Strengthening Your Artistic Voice
featuring Emma Goldman-Sherman
Sun. May 15 at 7:00 PM ET
Actors use Kristin Linklater’s book “Freeing the Natural Voice” to connect deeply to their instrument. In this 90-minute class, Emma Goldman-Sherman will teach playwrights how to do the same in order to get plays onto the page. How can you find and strengthen your voice? How can you write the plays you know are in you? Actors are taught to warm up and ground themselves with an embodied awareness. Actors honor their impulses as they arise. Playwrights can do this too in order to discover greater access to our own creativity. Through Emma’s exercises and prompts, you will learn how to find and free your own voice.
Emma Goldman-Sherman believes in the power of theatre to create healing and agency in audiences. Their plays have been produced on 4 continents and finalisted at BAPF, Henley Rose, Bridge Initiative, Campfire, Unicorn, and Cutting Ball and published by Brooklyn Publishers, Next Stage, Applause, and Smith & Kraus. They earned an MFA from the University of Iowa. Podcasts available at TheParsnipShip.com and PlayingonAir.org. Member: Dramatists Guild, LMDA, ICWP and Honor Roll! More at the newplayexchange.com. Emma runs www.BraveSpace.online to support women + writers.
