Alliance for Jewish Theatre (AJT) 2021 Virtual Conference: Request for Performance Proposals – Submission Form

Performers, playwrights, companies, collectives, and theatre artists are invited to apply.

Alliance for Jewish Theatre (AJT) is seeking Performance Proposals for AJT’s 2021 Virtual Conference. Accepted submissions will be paid a stipend and artists will have the opportunity to present their work to an engaged audience of theatremakers creating Jewish work around the world. In addition, the lead/submitting artist of accepted projects will receive a free “all-access pass” to the conference.

The AJT 2021 Virtual Conference will take place from Sunday, October 24th through Tuesday, October 26th, 2021. An estimated 200 theatre artists involved in Jewish work will be in attendance, including around 25+ Artistic and Producing Directors from Jewish theatres across the US, Canada, and the world.

Deadline and Submission Details:
Projects can be submitted starting Friday, August 20th, 2021. The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 17th, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time / 6:00 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time. There is no fee for submission or participation.

Applicants:
Proposals may be submitted by individual artists, collectives, or companies. Artists do not need to be Jewish or AJT Members to apply or perform. BIPOC artists, Jewish artists of Color, and International Artists are strongly encouraged to submit.

Criteria:
Projects should be Jewish in content, whether it revolves around Jewish experience, values, thought, characters, cultural expression, or identity.

Projects will be chosen through a juried process based on several factors including: artistic merit, Jewish content, relevancy to the moment, uniqueness of voice, and readiness to present.

We are open to comedy, drama, political theatre, text-based projects, clown, improv, digital theatre, live theatre, spoken word, everything!

Submission Categories:

I. Solo shows
II. New plays (cast of two or more)
III. Outside the Box & Digital Works

Because of the virtual nature of this year’s conference, we will only be showing 10 minute excerpts of each project/play and a brief introduction (around 2 minutes) from the lead artist. Because of the digital nature of the conference, chosen projects will be asked to produce their own work to be shown and viewed at the conference. AJT will aid in helping artists connect to additional collaborators through AJT’s network if they are needed through an email request for artists. Additional resources are available such as AJT’s Facebook Group Page, AJT’s Public Member Directory, and AJT’s Individual Membership Page

If selected in category two, new play excerpts must be pre-recorded and submitted no later than October 15 to be included in the conference.

Projects should be submitted to only one of the categories. A single artist may submit only one project.

AJT will host two 2021 Virtual Conference Performance Proposal information sessions via zoom on Friday, September 3 at 12pm PDT / 3pm EDT and Thursday, September 9 at 4pm PDT / 7pm EDT. You don’t have to attend the information session to apply. If you plan to attend the session, email us at conference@alljewishtheatre.org with Subject Line: RSVP to (date) 2021 RFP Information Session

If you have any questions including which category best suits your project, please email us at conference@alljewishtheatre.org.
