Why is the AJT Conference happening this year?
The AJT Conference has not been in person since 2019. AJT held virtual conferences during the years of the pandemic but now AJT members are craving the return of an event to bring everyone together in person again. Now, after years online, our conference is back in-person, by demand from the community.
How did we get here?
AJT began as a hub for Jewish creativity, bringing together Jewish theatres, performers, playwrights, and scholars across North America. Early conferences inspired the growth of Jewish theatres in JCCs and independent venues, and helped launch the first International Jewish Theatre Festival in Tel Aviv in 1982. Along the way, we've gathered in cities across the globe—from New York to Vienna—welcoming artists like Theodore Bikel, Wendy Wasserstein, Adam Kantor, and so many more. AJT conferences create intentional connections for future collaborations, and are a catalyst for the development of theatre about the Jewish experience.

What is the "Countdown to Conference" campaign?
We are raising funds to provide meaningful space for open discourse and life-affirming experiences. AJT values being a hub, connective tissue, a presence across communities; being a connector, empowering artists and audiences to expand the reach of theatre that explores Jewish identity in a multi-cultural world. AJT has hosted these conferences to create intentional connections for future collaborations, and to be a catalyst for the development of theatre about the Jewish experience. These funds would support the programming, resources, and services we offer now and over time.
How can you help?
Join our “Countdown to Conference” campaign today! To ensure we are able to provide a multi-day, in-person annual event for years to come, we rely on the joy, goodwill, and volunteerism of our community. We ask that you give a gift, become a conference sponsor, or volunteer your time. Be part of the ongoing legacy of the Alliance for Jewish Theatre.
